NetStumbler was designed to help network professionals locate and detect wireless networks by using the latest version of the Wireless LAN protocol. NetStumbler can be used in conjunction with software that supports it such as cNet, Cisco, F5 and many others. NetStumbler works on all versions of Windows from Windows 95 through to Windows 7. It can also be used on other operating systems.
NetStumbler is basically a small application which helps Windows to identify wireless LANs. It does this by first scanning the network adapter in your computer, and then reports back its findings. It also uses the WEP encryption, which is required by most wireless networks. It will also check if your computer is using a default SSID or not. It is also useful because it will notify you if there are any networks around that you do not recognize. If a network is found, it will provide details of the network such as its physical location, SSID and frequency. The NetStumbler application has an optional feature called Advanced Network Finder, which will provide you with the ability to search by network type, such as wireless networks, WiMAX and Ethernet.
